More about Badges Battling Childhood Cancer
On September 27, 2014 from 9am to 2pm, the Lincolnshire Police Department will challenge the Lincolnshire/Riverwoods Fire Protection District in a cook-off event titled, “Badges Battling Childhood Cancer” in an effort to raise money to help a local five year old girl battling a rare type of Leukemia. The event will take place at the Lincolnshire Village Hall, located at 1 Olde Half Day Road in Lincolnshire. LifeSource will also be present at the event and hold a blood drive for those having the courage to provide hope and strength in honor of five year old Ava Lee and similar patients in need by donating blood. In addition, representatives from Be The Match, a global leader in bone marrow transplantation, will be present to swab prospective bone marrow donors to help young Ava.
A little more about Ava Lee and her family...
Ava is a precious soul, wise beyond her five years and has a heart of gold. Ava comes from a remarkable family whose love, faith, and generosity have touched countless people. Her father, Mike, is a pastor and her mother, Esther, is an elementary school teacher in Lincolnshire. What began as a skin infection turned out to reveal a heart-breaking diagnosis for a rare type of Leukemia on March 1, 2014. In addition to the numerous blood transfusions Ava has received as part of her treatment, she is also in need of a bone marrow transplant. Since none of her family members are a match, Ava will rely on an unrelated marrow donor.
Come show your support for Ava and while you’re at it, cast a vote to determine who smokes who in the “Badges Battling Childhood Cancer” police versus fire cook-off event. Samples of grilled food for tasting will be available for a nominal fee. All the meat items for the event will be donated by The Fresh Market, and there will also be donuts available courtesy of Didier Farms. All proceeds received from the event will be donated to Be The Match. For more information, please contact Officer Brian Balinski at 847-883-9900.
