Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103
Parent-Teacher Organization

The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) of District 103 is a volunteer-based non-profit organization focused on:
  1. Promoting an environment in which every student has the opportunity to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically.
  2. Promoting a close relationship between the home and the school, so that parents, guardians, teachers, school staff, and school administrators may cooperate in the education and enrichment of our students.
  3. Stimulating community interest in and encouraging support for our schools through fundraising efforts.

DAWN ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP

The Dawn Anderson Scholarship was established in honor of Dawn Anderson who passed away in 2017. While her children progressed through the District 103 school system, Dawn followed them, volunteering for any and every school or teacher-based project available. Motivated by her love of children, Dawn volunteered for programs that did not involve her sons and continued volunteering after they left the district. To honor her legacy, the Learning Fund Foundation established the scholarship to recognize a D103 graduating 8th grade student who displays a passion for volunteering and servicing others. This $2,500 award must be used for education at a post-secondary school.

The submission deadline for this scholarship is Sunday, April 16, 2023

Why Get Involved

  • When you're part of the PTO, you get an inside view of what's happening at the schools.
  • When you're part of the PTO, you make new friends and have a chance to connect with other parents who share similar interests.
  • When you're part of the PTO, you get to see your child(ren) learning and growing at school.
"Two major studies from the 1990s and 2000s showed the positive effect parent involvement has on student achievement and other success factors. They were so influential that researchers today still reference them frequently. A more recent study—published in 2012 by researchers at North Carolina State University, Brigham Young University, and the University of California, Irvine—reinforced these earlier studies and found that family involvement has a greater effect on positive academic performance than does the quality of the school building. And it’s not just students who are positively affected; parents, teachers, and schools as a whole also experience benefits."
When parents are involved in their children’s education, those children are more likely to:
  • Earn better grades.
  • Score higher on tests.
  • Attend school regularly.
  • Have better social skills.
  • Show improved behavior.
  • Be more positive in their attitude toward school.
  • Complete homework assignments.
  • Graduate and continue their education.
Parents are more likely to:
  • Be more confident interacting at school.
  • Be more confident in their abilities to help their children learn.
  • Be held in higher esteem by teachers.
  • Continue their own education.
Schools are more likely to have:
  • Better morale among teachers.
  • Higher ratings of teachers by parents.
  • More support from families.
